A dementia centre earmarked for closure will stay open over the winter period. Altham Meadows on Westgate is due to shut due to a centralisation of dementia care services at Blackpool.
But Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said the 16-bed day care unit would remain in operation until at least March 2014.
Heather Tierney-Moore, chief executive at the trust, said: “By delaying the closure of the beds at Altham Meadows, we can ensure that we achieve a safe and smooth transition as the new community services become fully operational.”
Campaigners had given a 1,300 name petition to the trust demanding it stay open.
