TECHNOLOGICAL developments and investment in new equipment are now helping to boost local breast screening services for women.

With the extension of eligible screening age groups commencing this month, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) has also started to implement a digital mammography service.

The investment in the latest high tech digital imaging equipment provides higher resolution imaging for increased accuracy in screening results. It replaces traditional x-ray machines and conventional analogue mammography.

The new equipment allows images to be manipulated to improve a radiologist’s ability to interpret breast tissue.
