Better Care Together is one of a number of organisations offering placements to 16-18 year olds across Cumbria enabling young people to spend time learning about leadership and career opportunities.
In support of the ‘Dream Placement’ initiative the Better Care Together Careers and Engagement hub are giving two students an opportunity to work within the NHS in the Morecambe Bay area during the half term week in February 2017.
The scheme involves a week-long placement for each student where they get the chance to see how the real world of business operates, how leaders work and how vital decisions are made.
Dream Placement is now in its fourth year and will offer over 50 Cumbrian young people a unique opportunity to learn about business and shape their own futures.
The programme is now open for entries with a deadline of October 24 2016.
Those students chosen for the next stage of the competition will attend ‘Dragon’s Den’ style
They take place on Thursday December 8 2016 at Energus for students living in West or South Cumbria, and on Tuesday December 13 at Carlisle Football Club for students in North or East Cumbria.
The Centre for Leadership Performance Marketing and Business Development Manager Sarah Glass explains: “There’s a real buzz about the competition for places this year, and also an appreciation from the young people that even if they don’t secure a placement, taking part in the selection process is a huge development opportunity, and an experience not to be missed.”
Dream Placement was born out of conversations with businesses about how to attract and retain talent, how to spotlight what businesses do, and show young people the breadth of fantastic opportunities for them in the County.
It encourages young talent to stay in Cumbria or return if they go away to university.
Sarah added: “The Centre for Leadership Performance is all about collaboration and Dream Placement demonstrates that when businesses work together great things can happen.
“Dream Placement 2016 saw over 200 students apply for a Dream Placement.
“After a rigorous selection process 52 won placements with 33 organisations.”
David Wilkinson Director of Workforce and OD, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust said:
“I’m thrilled we are able to offer young people the opportunity to experience working in the NHS.
We hope the lucky participants choose to develop a career in the NHS, but the skills gained will help them succeed in whichever direction they choose to go in.
“We fully support the ‘Dream Placement’ scheme; keeping our home-grown talent in the area.”
