Gun shot death of much loved Lancaster chef

Friends and family took to social media to pay their respects to Craig Johnson who died in the early hours of Wednesday (February, 11) morning.

The 30 year-old award-winning chef worked at The Sun Hotel in Lancaster and was a well known figure in the community.

Craig was involved in the Lancaster Food and Drink Festival and won Mitchell’s Chef of the Year in 2008.

He also worked at the Water Witch pub and restaurant, in Lancaster.

Craig’s mum Wendy Taylor posted on Facebook: “R.I.P. my precious son...ya devastated mum...Hope your at peace now with Ben....2sons in 8months 2much.”

Kerry Johnson said: “R.I.P my big brother Craig why and so upsetting.”

Sarah Kimberley said: “You were a fascinating person who embodied so many qualities.”

Elvin Willgrass said: “You are a true classic and a unique individual that always delivered to please others.”

Jamie McGee said: “He cared for everyone. Had an amazing love for all things country and cooking.”

Police were called at around 3.40am on Wednesday to Burrow Heights Lane, in Lancaster, following reports of a man threatening to harm himself with a firearm.

Officers and Paramedics attended and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been passed to the coroner.
