Great North Swim in memory of Morecambe dad
Two sons are taking part in the Great North Swim for the second time in memory of their beloved Morecambe father.
David Benjamin lost his courageous battle with skin cancer last summer aged just 53-years-old.
David sadly passed away the day after he proudly watched his sons Alex, 21 and Oliver Benjamin, 18, take part in Windermere’s Great North swim last year.
Through sponsorship and donations, the boys’ swim that day raised £6,400, which they gave to Rosemere Cancer Foundationan for a potentially life-saving melanoma (skin cancer) diagnosis and monitoring research project that the charity is funding.
David, a former managing director at Matthews Benjamin estate agents, battled melanoma a number of times but it kept returning.
David was prescribed a new drug try to hold back the disease but on June 15 he lost his battle.
To honour David’s memory, the boys are swimming again with a big team of family friends, including their mum and David’s wife Deborah and elder brother.
Deborah Benjamin, David’s widow, said: “David endured so much and fought cancer so hard that we - his family and friends – feel it is important we now continue the fight in his name.” For every house sale Matthews Benjamin completes they will donate £100 to support Rosemere.
