Marney Spencer has broken new ground at Morecambe Golf Club where she has been elected as the club’s first female president.
The honour was confirmed at the club’s annual general meeting and caps a long career at the club where she has held many offices.
She is the longest serving director, is a former ladies’ captain and currently is in charge of the club’s catering and social committee.
She told members that she was ‘humbled’ by the honour they had bestowed upon her and said she would enjoy working for the good of Morecambe Golf Club and for the members.
Marney is a retired PE teacher and during her long career was a country class hockey player and cricketer.
When she retired from playing these sports she took up golf with notable success at Morecambe.
