Fun-loving Beatrice is 100 years young

It was all smiles for Beatrice Gaskell as she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Beatrice was delighted with her many cards, including one from Her Majesty the Queen, as she enjoyed her special day.

Beatrice was born in Lancaster on October 22 1916.

She went to Skerton infants and juniors. She left school at 14 and went to work in the local mill as a weaver.

Beatrice married Harry on March 23 1940. She lived with her parents whilst Harry went away to war. She then went on to live in Skerton and did so all her life before going to live at the Craigneil residential home in Morecambe in December 2015.

Beatrice had two children, Brenda and Colin, who died in 2007.

She also has five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Beatrice was a keen walker she was still hill walking and walking in the Lakes well into her 90s.

Today she still enjoys regular trips out with Brenda.

Karen Whitfield, assistant manager at the Craigneil, said: “Beatrice has a cheeky 
personality who always manages to put a smile on your face.

“She is happy go lucky and loves to have fun.

“She is in whole a pleasure to care for.”
