Former Morecambe Visitor office now demolished

Bulldozers have knocked down most of the former home of the town’s newspaper on Victoria Street to convert the building into a centre of excellence.

Khurram Zulfi, Warden’s site Manager, said: “All the brick, block and concrete slab has now been taken away. It will be crushed off site and then brought back to Victoria Street to be used as fill.

“Using the recycled material from the demolition work not only helps us to save money for the charity, it also demonstrates Warden’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of the work that we do.”

Galloway’s Society for the Blind say the £1.2 million state of the art centre will serve the whole of North Lancashire and be a hub for their services.

The new facility will include an ‘Ideas Store’ displaying state-of-the-art resources to help visually impaired people in everyday living, including a mock-up kitchen and living rooms.

It will also include a social enterprise café offering training and work placement opportunities for blind and partially sighted people. The centre will also house a recording studio, let-able office and meeting spaces, rooms for social and creative activities, and much more.
