One of the UK’s finest folk duo’s, Show Of Hands, will be stopping off in Morecambe as part of their tour on Friday (May 11).

Steve Knightley and Phil Beer are two extraordinary craftsmen with one unique sound.

Dovetailing old songs with new, their current tour is an unmissable celebration of the duo’s enduring impact on roots, acoustic and folk music. They won’t just be focusing on nostalgia though.

A raft of new songs will be showcased, reminding fans that Knightley’s razor-sharp song writing and commentary is more relevant than ever.

Show Of Hands weave story and melody to create a spellbinding display of consummate musicianship.

They have won multiple awards, and with five sell-out Royal Albert Hall shows under their belts, the original duo format makes a rare return to more intimate settings.

Steve said: “Big shows like the Royal Albert Hall and festivals offer us the chance to make a big sound, often bringing in talented friends to add to the experience.

“But there is something about playing as a duo that offers something different and more personal, both to ourselves and to our audiences. Phil and I can’t wait; it’ll be like the old days, but with more reliable transport!”

Growing up on opposite sides of the River Exe in Devon, the pair’s paths first crossed when they joined forces playing on the Exeter pub and club circuit before heading off in different directions. It wasn’t until the mid-80s that they began gigging together again and in 1991, Show Of Hands was formed.

Having spent more than two decades on the road, the pair have released 25 albums and garnered no less than three BBC Folk Awards. Knightly is regarded as one of the UK’s very best singer-songwriters, while Beer is one of its finest multi-instrumentalists.

Show Of Hands’ special guest on the tour is compelling musician and fellow Devonian Geoff Lakeman, chieftain of the brilliant Lakeman tribe. A compelling musician in his own right, the release of his debut album ‘After All These Years’ has seen festivals and concert venues clamouring to book him, suggesting retirement might be off the cards for some time.

Show Of Hands will be performing at the Platform in Morecambe on Friday May 11 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £22 and are available online at www.lancaster.gov.uk/platform or the box office on 01524 582803.
