Floods and high winds cause havoc

THE A6 Scotland Road was closed between Market Street and Truckhaven just north of Carnforth this morning due to flooding.

Meanwhile residents in Galgate were continuing to watch the skies anxiously after the River Conder burst its banks, threatening nearby properties. The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning.

Further heavy rain has been forecast today with showers expected to sweep in from across the Irish Sea.

The River Lune also burst its banks after downpours on Monday and Tuesday, sending livestock scurrying for higher ground.

There were long delays on the West Coast Main Line yesterday due to flooding and strong winds disrupted Isle of Man Steam Packet sailings between Heysham and Douglas.
