The Environment Agency has issued a tidal flood alert for the high tide in the Lune Estuary and surrounding area on Monday February 23.

Tidal spray and onshore flooding may occur on roads and promenades, it said, and some properties along the coast between Heysham and Cockerham may be affected.

Environment Agency officers have checked defences and are monitoring sea levels and weather conditions.

The tide is forecast to peak around 2.15pm.

A spokesperson said: “With westerly gales, we forecast that the tide will reach 5.8m at Glasson Dock.

“High water can be expected for two hours before and after the peak.”

The spring tides are higher than usual due to the alignment of the sun, moon and earth.

The positioning has combined to create a greater than normal force over the oceans.

The greater force means the tides will be higher than usual spring tides.
