Final M6 and M55 link road closures at Broughton for ‘Pinch Point’ works

Drivers using the M6 and M55 around Preston in Lancashire are being advised the final programme of overnight carriageway closures has been published ahead of completion of the £7m pinch point widening improvement.

The scheme was fully opened to traffic and the temporary speed limit removed at 6am yesterday (Thursday, March 12) but further closures are required to complete resurfacing, installing new roadmarkings and new traffic sensors.

The Highways Agency has widened the northbound carriageway of the M6 ahead of and through junction 32 at Broughton Interchange where the motorway meets the M55.

A full overnight closure of the northbound carriageway between junction 31 at Samlesbury and junction 32 will take place tomorrow night (Saturday, March 14) between 9pm and 6am. Northbound drivers will be diverted off the M6 at junction 31 and can rejoin the northbound M6 at junction 32 via the A59, A5085, A6 and eastbound link road from the M55 onto the M6.

The eastbound link from the M55 onto the northbound M6 will be closed overnight - between 9pm and 6am each night – tonight (Friday, March 13) and again on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights (15, 17 and 18 March). Drivers seeking to join the northbound M6 should leave the M55 at junction 1 and follow the A6 north up to junction 33 of the M6 at Galgate.

The northbound M6 will be closed overnight – between 9pm and 6am - at junction 32 on Monday night (16 March). Access to and from the M55 will remain and drivers wishing to continue on the northbound M6 will be diverted west along the M55 to junction 1 at Broughton where they can join the eastbound M55 and the link road onto the northbound M6.

Drivers are being advised the southbound carriageway will be closed at junction 32 tonight (Friday, March 13) between 9pm and 6am. Drivers seeking to remain on the southbound M6 will be sent onto the westbound M55 and onto junction 1 of the that motorway where they can leave and join the eastbound link road for the southbound M6.
