The Winter Gardens has hosted its first rock concert in more than 30 years.

Ex-Whitesnake star Bernie Marsden headlined the night of live music at the historic theatre, helping to raise more than £2,000 towards a new heating system for the venue.

Thursday night’s show also saw a guest appearance on guitar by David Morris, prospective Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Morecambe in the upcoming General Election.

Mr Morris, a former musician and songwriter who owns a huge collection of guitars, was only able to join in the show thanks to ‘Tanny’, a member of support act Tin Pan Alley.

He loaned David his guitar and amp so he could play the song ‘Fool For Your Lovin’ in the encore.

After the gig, the politician put the Winter Gardens in touch with a local promoter who Mr Morris hopes can attract acts to the venue more regularly.

“If a gig on this scale has been done once it can be done again,” said Mr Morris.
