Items discarded on the county’s waterways can cause damage to boats as they can become stuck on parts underneath, such as on a propeller shaft, or in the engine.

The concerns were revealed on a Facebook group for boaters.

Present lockdown rules mean all navigation on England’s waterways should be limited to essential use only, however some people live on their boats and need to use the canal to access essential facilities or services when necessary.

Many marinas in the county are closed and boaters who are not currently occupying their boat are advised not to short overnight breaks on their boat during this period.
