Forty elections will take place across England and Wales to determine the Police and Crime Commissioners who hold the police force to account, preside over police budgets, aim to cut crime and ensure local policing is effective.
These elections will be made using the “supplementary vote” system where voters can rank two candidates in order of preference. Turnout for the Police and Crime Commissioner elections is expected to be low nationwide. Results are expected on Friday.
