Details of the University of Cumbria’s annual showcase of research work have been revealed.

Featuring guest speakers and demonstrations as well as a series of fascinating short talks the Cumbria Research and Innovation conference is to be held on July 6 at the Sentamu Building on the university’s Lancaster campus.

Vice Chancellor Prof Julie Mennell will welcome delegates who will also hear from Professor Diane Cox the director of research and head of graduate school along with Professor Andy Gale the university’s director of industrial strategy.

Professor Graeme Danby, who’ll be chairing the morning session, said: “This event offers a glimpse into the variety of work that goes on here and is a chance for businesses, residents and anyone interested in hearing from and meeting colleagues from all departments.

“Without doubt the breadth and depth of work here has an impact on all our lives and this is a golden opportunity to see what goes on at first hand and maybe think about possible future collaborations.”

The conference offers an excellent opportunity for networking and discussing a range of subjects in the university’s 10th anniversary year. Richard Little, who has worked in the field of leadership development for 35 years, is the morning’s keynote speaker.

From government agencies to third sector organisations, a former theatre director and trade union activist, he has developed methods and programmes for leadership development.

Conrad Lynch, who as well as serving as artistic director of Theatre by the Lake is also a board member of UK Theatre and a trustee of Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal, will present a talk entitled, World class theatre in a world class landscape - the challenges and rewards of making work in a rural location.

Conrad said. “From the arts to zoology, the university is playing an increasing role in the region that I’m proud to support.” Tickets are available from Eventbrite, search Cumbria Research & Innovation 2018 Conference.
