Travelling over Easter? Network rail are carrying out major engineering and service alterations from Good Friday to Easter Monday.

Many major rail routes are affected including the London to Scotland West Coast main line.

No Virgin trains or London Midland trains will run in or out of London’s Euston station between Friday and Monday.

Virgin services to northern England and Scotland will be restricted as improvement work between Crewe and Warrington, Carlisle and Glasgow continues.

Manchester Victoria station will be closed from Good Friday to the end of Easter Monday.

Four million motorists are expected to travel today according to RAC.

Network Rail has promised the same disruption at Christmas will not happen again.

The train operator has said the reason why they do work during public holidays is because the railway is “relatively quiet” and the “inevitable” disruption affects fewer people.

Network Rail insist work will allow more trains to run at higher speeds and will also improve the reliability of the network.
