A little girl has a new friend thanks to a big-hearted Visitor reader.
Four-year-old Amelia Adams was left heartbroken when she lost her beloved cuddly dog Dougal on a trip to Lancaster.
But after reading the story in our newspaper, Philippa Youren’s heart went out to little Amelia.
So she dropped off a new cuddly doggie for Amelia at our office and asked us to pass it on as a present to make the little girl feel better.
As you can see from the photograph, Amelia has already made friends with her new toy, who she has named ‘Easter’.
Laura Adams, Amelia’s mum, said: “I’m completely overwhelmed by the generosity of the lady who read about ‘Dougal’s adventure’ in the paper and sent a gift for Amelia.
“Amelia is delighted. Such kindness has touched our family and we are very grateful.”
Laura said Amelia was in tears for weeks after losing Dougal.
He was last seen on Thursday, April 2 when he, Amelia and her dad Mark caught the number 89 bus from Knott End to Lancaster. They then went to McDonald’s for tea.
They later retraced their steps to the bus station, McDonald’s and also went to the police station, but there was no sign of Dougal.
Laura, who works in Lancaster, said: “We have decided that Dougal may be on a world cruise.
“Some friends are sending postcards when they are away, which hopefully will please Amelia.”
