Police are asking dog owners and walkers who exercise their animals around that area to be vigilant of any suspicious behaviour or activity.

A Prison Service spokesman said: “Staff at HMP Lancaster Farms recovered a package on Saturday July 16. The incident is being investigated by the police and one prisoner has been placed in segregation.

“We have introduced new laws that mean those caught trying to throw packages over prison walls can now face up to two years in jail.

“We take a zero tolerance approach to contraband in our prisons and work closely with the police and Crown Prosecution Service to prosecute those involved.”
