Don't panic it's only Dad's Army!

Peter Donnelly, curator of the King’s Own Museum in Lancaster, will present an illustrated talk on the history of the King’s Own Home Guard in World War Two on March 1.

According to the King’s Own Museum the unit in Lancaster was formed on May 25 1940 in the Police Parade Room of Lancaster Town Hall. Another unit was established for Morecambe and Heysham.

The Lancaster Home Guard are reported to have had only ten rifles, ten suits of denim and forage caps and 40 rounds of ammunition per rifle and it was not until September 1940 they were issued with their uniform.

This free talk begins at 5pm and will be followed by a screening of the new Dad’s Army film at 6.10pm.

Tickets for the film are £6.50, £5.50 for concessions and £4.50 for under 18s.

Dad’s Army was a hit BBC comedy series which ran for nine years from 1968 until 1977.

There are other chances to see the 12A film at the Lancaster cinema from February 26-March 3.
