Good luck to Scott Farmer who started his 123 mile run from Scarborough Pier to the Eric Morecambe Statue on Monday morning.

Scott is a serving member of the armed forces with Royal Logistics Corps, 159 reg, 381 med sup sqn (V). Scott will arrive at the Eric Morecambe Statue at 5pm on Friday and I will accompany him along with his colleagues from Alexandra Barracks . We’ll all run the last five miles of his challenge.

We’ll set off from the barracks at 4.20pm – you can follow Scott’s progress on Twitter @triggerscotty he received a good luck message from David Richmond CBE who was wounded in Afghanistan in 2008 and is the Director of Recovery at Help For Heroes. You can sponsor Scott on his fundraising page http://www.bmycharity.com/ScottFarmer.

I was pleased to visit Philip Jones opticians in Carnforth last week and have my eyes tested. I did this to raise awareness of National Eye Health Week. It really is worth noting that 50% of sight loss in the UK is preventable according to Vision 2020’s research. While I was there I met a lady who had her eyesight saved when Mr Jones noticed an abnormality and sent her to her GP’s surgery.

Philip made the point that even people with what they consider to be healthy eyes should have their eyes tested in much the same way as someone with healthy teeth would visit the dentist for a checkup. Thank you to Philip and his team for making me so welcome.

We are currently in the middle of party conference season. The Liberal Democrats held their conference last week, the Labour Party have theirs this week and I will be in Manchester next week for the Conservative Party Conference.

I look forward to conference as it is an opportunity to listen to ideas from grass roots political supporters and also a large number of organisations are represented which gives me the opportunity to promote Morecambe and Lunesdale and to discuss ideas that I have or have been suggested to me.
