I know from my inbox that many of you are concerned that the Trans Atlantic Trade Partnership (TTIP) would lead to the privatisation of the NHS by American companies.

I would like to reassure you that there is no evidence to suggest that TTIP would affect the NHS in any way. This week I participated in health questions and raised this concern.

Jeremy Hunt MP Secretary of State for Health said: ‘The Government will not allow TTIP negotiations to harm the NHS. This is scaremongering and it is wrong to scaremonger about something as important as the NHS. To suggest the NHS is being privatised is fiction.’

Please be aware of the scaremongering campaigners and if there are any claims they make you are unsure of please contact my office and I will factcheck the claims for you.

On Friday I attended a ceremony at HMS Wellington where I was welcomed as a member of the Hon company of Master Mariners. The Master Mariners work to lobby Government to ensure that the interests of seafarers are protected and also support young members training to be seafarers by supporting naval colleges.

Heysham Port is a large employer in my constituency so I therefore felt it was important to join the company and ensure that the interests of seafarers in my constituency were being represented in Parliament.

On Sunday I had the pleasure of switching on the Lincoln Close Illuminations with Gilly from BBC Radio Lancashire. Dianne and Ian Clifton put on a fantastic display every year and raise an awful lot of money for Charity.

One of the Charities they support is Derian House children’s hospice which cares for children who have terminal illnesses and their families. The switch on was busier than ever and it was brilliant to see how much support Ian and Dianne have from all members of the local community.

If you are in the Westgate area over the Christmas period make sure you pop down to Lincoln Close and take a look.
