Last Tuesday I attended the ‘Sigh Of The Sea’ event in Morecambe which was a very fitting commemoration of the tenth anniversary of cockle pickers disaster.

I must make special mention and say thanks to Pete and his team at More Music who in association with the Lancaster & Morecambe Chinese Society, the Hua Xian Chinese Society and the many musicians, dancers, singers and other performers made the evening very poignant.

It was clear to me that a great deal of time has been spent rehearsing and organising the evening and it was touching to see so many people of all ages pay their respects.

On Friday I will be attending the first poppy scatter at Happy Mount Park which has been organised by a team of local people lead by Steve Trainor. The idea is for people in Morecambe & Lunesdale to sow some poppy seeds so that when the 100th anniversary of the First World War is remembered in the summer, the poppies are in full bloom. Everyone is invited to attend on Friday and the poppy scatter starts at 12 noon.

I have been able to talk about flooding in Parliament this week, I recall one of the problems we had at Sunderland Point was the strict criteria criteria introduced in 2009 and a great deal of red tape. After I had my debate, much of the red tape was lifted and the residents of Sunderland Point were able to build sea defences to protect the point.

Thank you to those of you who have already signed my buses petition which calls for Lancashire County Council not to withdraw funding for vital bus services. Already I think you are being listened to because now the County Council has said that it will not withdraw bus services but will look at individual routes

The petition is still available on my website www.davidmorrismp.co.uk if you would like to sign it.
