I hope you and your family had an enjoyable and relaxing Christmas break. I would ask you to keep in your thoughts those who were not able to be home for Christmas, especially those serving overseas with the armed forces.

Just before Christmas, the latest figures for the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) budget were released.

I am pleased to say that the budgets have been increased for 2014/15 the budget will increase by 2.14%, the budget will increase again in 2015/16.

This is particularly good news given the Labour Party opposed this increase, -patients will benefit .CCG’s work with patients and other healthcare professionals to commission a range of care for patients including planned hospital care, urgent and emergency care, rehabilitation care and community health services.

As we approach the New Year, I have been reminiscing about 2013. With the help of the Chief Executive of JD Wetherspoon, I was able to commission a plaque in memory of Dame Thora Hird.

The plaque came with the blessing of Dame Thora’s family and I was pleased when the Morecambe Warblers came to the unveiling ceremony. Dame Thora was an honorary life President of the Warblers.

Private Scott Farmer wanted to run from Scarborough to Morecambe to raise money for Help For Heroes, my team helped Scott with some organisation. I was delighted to run the last few miles with Scott and colleagues from Alexandra Barracks.

With the help of the PM and local resident Barbara Langridge, we were able to have safety lights installed outside St. Peter’s School in Heysham.

Sport England gave £100,000 to local sporting clubs, £50,000 to the Vale of Lune RUFC and £50,000 to Morecambe & Heysham Yacht Club .

Just a few weeks ago, the Prime Minister officially announced that the Heysham M6 Link Road will be built which was welcomed by local business leaders who met the PM during his visit to the area.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a Happy New Year, all the best for 2014.
