A cross-bay walk it was feared would be axed because of damage to the route by high spring tides will go ahead, organisers have confirmed.

The nine-mile fundraiser, from Hest Bank to Grange-over-Sands, in aid of Lancaster and Morecambe Lions will take place on Saturday, September 14. After checks of the route which the walkers will take, guide Alan Sledmore has given the event the green light, Lions member Bob Hobbs said.

The crossing follows an old coach route across the bay which takes around four hours to complete.

Walkers’ entry fee is £9 for adults and £5 for under-16s but participants are encouraged to raise more money through donations and sponsorship.

All proceeds will be used for Lancaster and Morecambe Lions’ charitable work.
