A woman was sexually assaulted after accepting a lift home after a night out.

Police said the incident happened at 4am on Saturday, August 3, when the 19-year-old woman accepted a lift home from a man she did not know after leaving the Revolution bar on Penny Street in Lancaster city centre.

However rather than drive her home he diverted to a lane in the area close to the Globe Public House, Overton and sexually assaulted he.

He is described as around 40 years of age, with close cropped short or balding hair, 6 foot tall and of Polish nationality.

DI Phil Jones who is leading the investigation said: Fortunately the lady was able to escape and fled to a nearby house where the householder assisted her but she is understandably very distressed.

“I’d appeal for anyone who saw or heard a car speeding from the lane close to the Globe Pub in Overton at 4am on Saturday, August 3.

The car is described as a silver 5 door family saloon car. I need to speak to anyone who recalls seeing a similar car parked in the vicinity of the Revolution pub on Penny Street between 2.30am and 3am the same day.’
