Police are hunting two men who carried out a “cowardly and vicious” attack on a 22-year-old woman.
Officers say the victim was assaulted and robbed as she walked along a path in Lancaster late at night.
One man jumped out from behind a wall and punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground.
A second man then ran up and kicked her.
In the struggle the woman injured a finger as her mobile phone - and iPhone 4 - was ripped from her grasp.
Det Sgt Guy Hamlett said: “This was a nasty incident with a completely unnecessary level of violence.
“The victim has been left shaken by the assault and we are keen to find those responsible for this cowardly and vicious attack.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have either witnessed the incident or have seen anyone behaving suspiciously in the area beforehand.”
The attack happened at around 2am on Sunday May 29 as the woman walked close to a pathway between East Road and Melrose Street.
Both males ran off in the direction of East Road and the city centre.
The victim suffered bruising to her eye and cheek as well as her leg and her fingernail.
The first male was described as a white, between 6ft and 6ft 3in tall, with a slim to medium build. He was wearing a waterproof sports top with a dark hood up and had a light coloured scarf covering his face. He was also wearing dark coloured sports trousers and trainers.
