Teenagers are bailed over race attack

A MAN was repeatedly punched in the face in an unprovoked racial assault after being asked if he was from Afghanistan.

Police said the 29-year-old victim, from Morecambe, who is of Asian appearance, was walking with a friend along Euston Road at 11.30pm on New Year’s Eve when he was approached by two men.

The two men spoke to him and went on to punch him in the face several times.

The victim suffered a cut lip and a black eye during the attack.

Police said an 18-year-old man from Morecambe and a 19-year-old man from Oldham were arrested in connection with the assault.

Both of the men have been bailed until January 30.
