Taser used to pacify attacker

A man was assaulted during an argument and received serious injuries.

Police said they were called to the incident, on Green Street, during the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 42-year-old victim met his alleged attacker during a drinking session on Friday night.

The pair then went back to his home address, where they had an argument.

The victim, from Westgate, Morecambe, was then pushed down the stairs and out on to the street where he was kicked and punched in the head.

He suffered heavy bruising and had to have some stitches.

A member of the public called police, who arrived at the scene as the assault began.

The attacker resisted police violently and they had to use a Taser on him.

A 33-year-old policeman received a dislocated shoulder during the incident.

*Graham Gilbert, 51, of Green Street, Morecambe, was charged with assaulting a police officer and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was remanded in custody over the weekend and appeared at Lancaster Magistrates Court on Monday.

No plea was entered and he was remanded in custody to appear in court on September 17.
