Thieves are stealing flagstones from footpaths in Lancaster.

Lancaster Neighbourhood Policing Teams, along with Lancashire Highways Services, have recently received a number of reports of theft of natural stone flags (Yorkshire stone) from footways in Lancaster.

These old style flagstones have been taken from a number of locations around Lancaster, particularly in the Scotforth and Greeaves Road area.

These materials are very difficult and costly to replace, and are of great historic value to a city such as Lancaster.

Once the flag stones have been removed it is also putting people at risk of injury, as users of these footways.

PCSO David Owen said: “There are ten areas of flags which need to be replaced that we know of.

“We would ask residents and members of the public to be vigilant.” Call 101.
