Morecambe pub attack leaves Wolves fan bleeding from glass wound after cheering a goal

Preston Crown Court heard how Wolves fan Andrew McCall was watching the Man City v Wolves game on December 27 last year in the Chieftain Pub in Morecambe .

The punter cheered when Wolves scored.

But seconds later he was hit to the back of his head with a glass in an unprovoked assault.

His attacker, Brett Schofield, 54, who was wearing a Man City shirt, then hit him a second time.

Other revellers in the venue had to stop the defendant before he could hit him a third time.

Fortunately the glass did not break.

However, the blow left the victim's head bleeding from a 2cm deep scalp wound that was 6-7cm long.

He had to have five staples in his head at the hospital.

Schofield, of Sandylands Promenade, Heysham, pleaded guilty to wounding.

Recorder Tania Griffiths QC imposed a 14 month jail term, suspended for two years, and ordered him to have six months of alcohol treatment.

The defendant was also given a 45 day rehabilitation activity requirement, six month tagged curfew and must pay a £149 victim surcharge.
