A MORECAMBE man has been jailed for nearly five years after a vicious assault on a police officer with a broken bottle.

Jamie Joss, 19, of Needham Avenue, Morecambe, attacked Sgt James Martin after a street brawl on Queen Street in June this year.

Officers went to the scene of the fight in the early hours of June 18 after reports of a brawl involving a large number of people.

Sgt James Martin was patrolling the area in his car when he saw Joss covered in blood and stopped to check on him.

Joss then produced a broken bottle from behind his back and thrust it through the car window at Sgt Martin’s face and neck.

The officer was able to roll onto his side and pull up his stab vest, preventing any injuries. Joss continued to run alongside the car, jabbing the bottle through the open window.
