Morecambe attempted murder accused could face trial in July

Alexander Lapinski, of Aberdeen Road, Lancaster, is also accused of possession of a cut throat razor in a public place.

It follows an alleged incident at The Pier public house, on Marine Road Central in Morecambe.

Police and the North West Ambulance Service were called to the scene at 12.30am on Sunday, January 12 to reports of an assault.

Complainant Robert Simmons, who is in his 50s, was taken to hospital to be treated for a laceration to his neck.

He has since been discharged from hospital.

Lapinski, who is 57, was later charged in connection with the alleged offence, but pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing.

It is understood his defence centres around a ‘reasonable excuse’ for having a blade.

He is currently remanded into custody, but appeared before Preston Crown Court by video link for a conference with his defence lawyer ahead of his expected trial.

The defendant is next expected to appear on July 6, when his trial could go ahead if coronavirus-related restrictions are lifted.
