More elderly residents in Lancashire have fallen fall victim to telephone fraud, said detectives.

Since the start of February there have been 33 reported incidents with around £80k stolen from the victims.

In each instance the victim has been contacted via phone by someone purporting to be a police officer.

The caller says that the victim has been targeted for some sort of crime relating to their bank or bank card.

The victim is asked for their bank account details or they are asked to transfer a substantial amount of money to a ‘safe’ account.

DC Barry James from Burnley CID said: “These are despicable crimes against vulnerable, elderly victims.”
