A MAN who robbed a pizza delivery driver and also tried to rob a shopkeeper – threatening to cut his throat – has been jailed for five years.

Dean Halliwell punched the fast food worker in the face, having grabbed at his bag.

Before that, he had threatened a shop owner by telling him: “Give me some money or I’ll cut your throat”.

Halliwell, 21, who had been living on Sefton Road, Heysham, had pleaded guilty to one charge of robbery and another of attempted robbery, the offences occuring weeks apart.

The offence of robbery took place on February 5, when a driver from the Little Italy takeaway in Heysham went to deliver two pizzas, two portions of chips and some fizzy pop to an address on Sefton Road. Halliwell lived next door.

When the pizza man arrived, Halliwell said to two other men who were present: “How about we kick his head in and take the lot?”

The driver went back to his van but Halliwell grabbed part of his bag and started tugging at it.
