Hitchhiker assaulted with wood

A hitchhiker was attacked with a piece of wood whilst trying to thumb a lift.

Cumbria police are appealing for information after the assault near a motorway service station.

The hiker was trying to thumb a lift on the northbound exit slip road at Burton Services on the M6 near Kendal at 1.20pm on Friday, February 14.

A car stopped and a man got out and hit the hiker with a piece of wood.

The victim was taken to Westmorland General Hospital, Kendal, with bruises and swelling to his arm and his leg.
