A MAN was brutally smashed in the face and over the head with a hammer during an argument with two acquaintances.
Police were called to Borwick Court on Westgate following reports that a man had been attacked with a hammer and a piece of wood.
The 40-year-old victim suffered cuts to his face during the attack but was not seriously injured.
North West Ambulance Service said an ambulance attended the scene at 5.40pm on March 28 but the patient refused treatment.
Police said he later attended hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Two men, both aged 27 and from Morecambe, were arrested and released on police bail until May 3 for further enquiries to take place.
