An OAP who was a victim of the floods in Galgate was also the victim of a theft from his back garden.

Stanley Smedley, 70, who has a house on Main Road, Galgate, discovered metal items had been stolen from his back garden in April.

Stanley, whose house is being renovated after the floods said: “Two cast iron pig troughs are missing, an old mangle and a wrought iron table. Anything metal got stolen. My next door neighbour but one had an Aga stolen from their garden.

“I provided the police with CCTV footage of the thefts but no-one has been caught so far. It’s the sentimental value rather than the value of the items really. I feel let down by the police which has been more upsetting than my house getting flooded.”

Police said the theft was reported to them on April 19 but the case was still under investigation.

Anyone with information should call 101.
