Cost of driver awareness courses rises

The cost of driver education courses in Lancashire is set to increase following changes to funding arrangements.

The cost of the Speed Awareness, ‘Driving 4 Change’, ‘What’s Driving Us’ and the ‘RIDE’ courses will increase by £25, from £70 to £95, with effect from Saturday, March 1.

The increase in cost will be utilised to fully fund the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety’s (LPfRS) speed enforcement activity, meaning offending motorists will pay for speed enforcement, rather than local taxpayers through Lancashire County Council, Blackburn with Darwen Council, Blackpool Council and police budgets.

In 2013, 32,718 motorists attended a driver education course in Lancashire.
