POLICE discovered a cannabis factory in the cellar of a Lancaster house after carrying out a drugs raid.

Officers executed a search warrant at a property on Derby Road in Skerton at around 4.30pm on Thursday, January 5, following complaints of a smell coming from the address and the discovery of a small number of plants.

Further investigation revealed over 50 plants in varying stages of maturity and a large quantity of recently harvested cannabis.

The plants, which have an estimated street value of up to £20,000, were seized, along with a sophisticated hydroponic cultivation system.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a class B drug. He has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
