Police are warning people of a potential postal fraud scam following a recent incident in Tatham.

The message comes after an elderly woman was targeted with a fraudulent letter from someone purporting to be her bank, asking her to send her debit card and pin number.

The letter was printed on headed paper and contained a stamped addressed envelope for the woman to return her details and card.

Fortunately, she did not send her details on.

Community Beat Manager for Lune Valley, PC Andy Massingham, said, “While the vast majority of letters that people receive from their bank are genuine, some scammers will try and use this as a way of getting people to hand over valuable personal details.

“If you have a vulnerable or elderly friend or relative, please let them know that this could happen so they can avoid becoming a potential victim.”

Contact police on 101.
