Couple celebrate a special anniversary

Dorothy and Wilf Casson who are celebrating their platinum wedding anniversary.

Wilf and Dorothy Casson, who live in Bolton-le-Sands, married at the end of World War Two and have been blissfully happy ever since.

After meeting Dorothy on Bonfire Night, it was a year until Wilf saw her again when she walked alongside him whilst he was cycling.

At the age of just 16 Wilf nearly died when a German bomb hit his family home on Tomlinson Road in Heysham.

In 1942, Wilf joined the Reconnaissance Corps and was transferred to the Ordnance Corps. In 1945, he came home from Italy and the couple married at St Peter’s Church in Heysham. Dorothy was working as a clerk at the Canadian Treasury in Lancaster at the time. In 1947, Wilf returned from the clean-up operation in Italy to a house in Slyne.

Dorothy, 93, and Wilf , 90, farmed at Heysham Moss and then moved to Moss House Farm in Silverdale, then Beaumont Cote farm at Nether Kellet until Wilf passed the farm on to his son Neville and daughter-in-law.

The couple now live in a house in Bolton-le-Sands built by Wilf. They have three sons, Geoffrey, Graham and Neville, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Wilf said: “We haven’t been the falling out type of people. There are always downfalls but we have been there for each other.”

The couple celebrated their anniversary with a meal at The Midland hotel, Morecambe.
