A major conference aimed at addressing issues around poverty in Morecambe will hear from leading voices from the community.

‘Faith in the Community’ will be held at The Platform on Tuesday, November 4 from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

The free event will focus on how faith groups, such as churches and charities, can work with other agencies in helping people in the town.

Most of the churches in Morecambe and Heysham are actively involved in some way in social action.

There are food banks, various ‘drop-in’ groups where people can get a meal, help with utility problems and advice clinics on matters such as benefits and financial planning, as well as groups working with youth and elderly.

The keynote speaker will be Major Drew McCombe, from the Salvation Army. There will also be contributors from the police, the Citizens Advice Bureau and Lancaster University.
