The Co-op store next to Lancaster bus station is closing next month with the loss of nine jobs.

The store on Wood Street in Lancaster was formerly Somerfields and before that Kwiksave.

A spokesman for The Co-operative Group said: “We can confirm that our food store at Wood Street, Lancaster is to close towards the end of August.

“Staff have been informed of the decision, which has been taken with the greatest reluctance.

“It is not, in any way, a reflection on the commitment and hard work of the store team.

“Every effort is being made to redeploy as many as possible of the nine members of staff with The Co-operative, or to help them find alternative employment.

“We would like to thank our shoppers for their valued custom over the years.”
