City author wins fiction prize

A Lancaster author is one of eight winners of The Jerwood Fiction Uncovered prize.

Carys Davies’ delicate and dark series of short stories, collectively entitled The Redemption of Galen Pike, has already won three other awards.

The eight winners are officially announced today and will receive £5,000 each.

The fiction prize now in its fifth year, is unique in its aim to celebrate solely great British Fiction.

Carys Davies said: “I’m completely thrilled and delighted. It makes a big difference to a writer and its all about helping writers to get exposure.”

Davies, who was born in Wales, lived for many years in the United States before moving to Lancaster in 1999 and it’s these three places - Wales, America, Lancaster and the surrounding area, which often provide the backdrop and the inspiration for her critically-acclaimed stories.
