Christmas Day rescue after floods hit town

While the area largely missed the more serious weather conditions this time around, some residents suffered flood damage while others had to be rescued by the emergency services.

On Christmas Eve, Lancaster and Morecambe fire crews attended an incident involving a vehicle containing three occupants which had become stranded in water in Moss Road, Morecambe.

Firefighters were able to assist the occupants to safety where they were then checked over by paramedics.

Two detached houses and a caravan site in Main Road, Slyne, were affected by flooding on Christmas Day.

Firefighters were called to the scene at around 9.30pm to help rescue three residents from the properties and lead them to safety.

In the early hours of Boxing Day, fire crews attended Lancaster Road, Hest Bank Lane and Hasty Brow in Slyne, where floodwater had affected the electricity supply.

Later on Boxing Day crews were also called to a house in Sycamore Gardens, Heysham, where water was dripping through the light fittings on the ground floor from a leak above.

Firefighters isolated the electric supply to make the property safe.

On Sunday, fire crews assisted with flooding 1ft deep in the cellar of a house in Scotforth Road, Lancaster.

And yesterday morning, Monday, the after effects of the storm caused flooding in Low Lane, Torrisholme as well as Hest Bank Lane in Slyne.
