The work is by popular Lancaseter artist Chas Jacobs, famed for his colourful depictions of Morecambe and Lancaster scenes.

Centrica Energy, which owns and operates the Morecambe Bay gas fields, commissioned Chas to commemorate the region’s contribution to UK energy from 1985 to 2015.

The painting shows Centrica Energy’s offshore platform surrounded by the Barrow Gas Terminals and the Heysham Support Base.

It also vividly captures Centrica Energy’s gas processing operations from the gas pipes and gas flame at Barrow to the helicopters flying engineers to the offshore platform and the boats carrying supplies from Heysham Port.

It is also packed with North West landmarks including Walney Island in Barrow and the Barrow shipyards as well as the Morecambe Bay coastline, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, St Peter’s Church in Heysham and the Lake District.

The painting, made from acrylics, also depicts local wildlife including grey seals and Oyster Catchers as well Chas Jacobs’ signature element - hot air balloons.

Chas said: “I’ve really enjoyed sharing this incredible story.

“For those who have been part of this 30 year story, I hope my work celebrates their achievements.”
