A MEDAL-WINNING tribute to the Olympics was back in place on Morecambe promenade just hours after being wrecked by vandals.
Lancaster City Council staff repaired an ornamental floral display of two cyclists riding a bike and returned it to the Harbour Band Arena where it is on display after winning a silver gilt in the National Flowerbed Competition.
The display was vandalised overnight during Tuesday and Wednesday. Both figures were ripped off the bike and surrounding plants were trampled on.
The council’s entry into the Tatton Park contest, called The Way of the Roses, is a depiction of the cycle route from Morecambe to Bridlington which opened in 2010.
The figures are made from chicken wire and planted up with alternatheras.
If anyone sees the display being vandalised or has any information about the incident then please call police on 101.
