Shoppers at Tesco Carnforth donated presents worth more than £300 to Barnardo’s supported accommodation service in Morecambe and Lancaster.
Staff in fancy dress persuaded customers to part with some of their shopping so young people could get a Christmas present. Scores of presents were given to young people aged 16 – 25 experiencing homelessness.
Barnardo’s team manager, Abigail Lobley said: “We’re grateful to staff at Tesco Carnforth who went ahead with their donation drive, days after the area was hit by severe flooding.
“It’s humbling. Barnardo’s wouldn’t have been able to do half as much for young people without the support of Tesco.”
The supermarket supports Barnardo’s throughout the year, where items donated to the local food bank are often accessed by young people at the supported accommodation service. The store also allowed Barnardo’s to fill a trolley full of food on Christmas Eve.
