Ten paintings of scenes related to cafes in Morecambe and Lancaster will form a new art exhibition.

‘Cafe Culture’ is Lancaster-born artist John Elles’ first solo exhibition, opening at The Town House Gallery, Morecambe on December 2.

Each of John’s paintings is either a view from a particular local café or with a café nearby.

John, who cites his artist influences as Hopper, Magritte and Godward, was born in 1957 and grew up on Halton Road, overlooking the River Lune in Skerton.

He studied art at the Storey Institute, Lancaster’s college of art, and has a degree in landscape architecture from Manchester Metropolitan University.

He worked for many years with James Mackie of Mackies of Lancaster, primarily as a specialist painter on upmarket interior projects, and also as a musician with Get Carter and Heroes of She.

The exhibition runs until December 12.
